All told, there were 522 letters spanning from 1944-1946

The Discovery, 2014

After church on the Sunday following the revelation about the existence of the actual war letters, I ventured into the basement to find the box. I brought it upstairs, dusted it off, opened it, and caught my breath - but not because of the dust. There, lovingly preserved for over 70 years were hundreds of letters, in perfect condition. I had no idea. Of course my mother did say he wrote every day, but I thought it was an exaggeration. I was wrong.
